"As the DTS goes,
so goes the mission"
so goes the mission"
PART ONE: LECTURES
Want to do a DTS and soak in all that is has to offer without additional stream/elective activities? Our DTS Classic keeps it simple while maintaining the strength of the training school.
Over the 12 Lecture weeks you will receive teaching from experienced lecturers on topics such as: Hearing God’s Voice, Character and Nature of God, Father Heart of God, Holy Spirit, Spiritual Authority, Gospel and Culture, Relationships, Lordship of Christ, Missions and Evangelism, Apologetics, Bible Overview, and Biblical Worldview.
When other students take part in their elective, you’ll be able to tap away on assignments, make those calls back home, work on that support letter, or explore the city and its surroundings.

PART TWO: OUTREACH
We desire to always be ready and willing to serve and share the good news as we lead people into the presence of God.
For part two of your DTS you will partner with local and long-term missionaries in the field, meet the physical and spiritual needs of many, and take your place in completing The Great Commission. You will be assigned to a team with staff facilitation and still be keeping with the UofN Curriculum.
Be prepared to apply all you’ve learned during the lecture phase when you head out for cross-cultural missions and encounter God in a fresh way in the nations.

“Suddenly I was looking at a map of the world, only the map was alive and moving! I could see all the continents, and waves were crashing onto their shores. Each wave went onto a continent, then receded, then came up further until it covered the continent completely. The waves become young people – kids my age and even younger – covering all the continents of the globe...

...They were talking to people on street corners and outside bars. They were going from house to house and preaching the Gospel. They came from everywhere and went everywhere, caring for people. Then just as suddenly as it had come the scene was gone.” - Loren Cunningham (YWAM founder)
how does the classic differ from other electives?
The classic elective is essentially the original design of DTS. The focus is on the DNA of the mission, our ywam values and spheres of society. While our Classic elective is largely self-lead there is a reading assignment and facilitation to a minor extent so that attendees still receive input and discipleship.
While the other electives head out for activities on afternoons and weekends 2-3 times in the initial 12-weeks, our Classic crew use that time to catch up on newsletters, call home, and complete their assignments.

what should i pack?
Upon acceptance, all students receive their confirmation packet with packing details at the back of the handbook. This is by no means means an exhaustive list, but does state the necessities for most attendees as well as some additional extras that people have found helpful along the way.
am i able to rent a vehicle from the ministry for free time?
Our vehicle policy maintains that only students 25yrs+ are able to drive our vehicles. This comes after taking a test with our vehicles manager and receiving a pass-grade for both theory and practical assessment.
We allow students 25yrs+ to drive within the city and to specific locations further afield such as a local beach or two, but we don't allow vehicles to be taken out of the city limits for both safety and maintenance reasons.
Thankfully, the DTS lives within walking distance to many shops, cafes, clothing stores, library, waterfront walks and gyms. Accessibility to the city-centre by foot is no obstacle. As our europeans often say, "There is no bad weather, just bad clothing".
